  Me and my group are researching many opening sequences from thriller films. Me and group need to research these because it will help us reach our full potential for our title in our thriller film. One of the thriller films we are researching is, Se7en.  1.  How many titles are displayed during the opening sequence of Se7en? Which Ones?  There are eight titles displayed during the opening sequence. The first title was the name of the studio which was "New Line Cinema." The second title was the name of the production company which is "An Arnold Kopelson Production". The third title was the actors which include: Brad Pitt, and Morgan Freeman.   For this title design, we chose "outbreak" A title sequence from a movie in the thriller genre. Here is some information, that our group did as we researched this title sequence. 1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequence to the film? Which ones? Throughout the title sequence there were 28 different titles displayed through the scenes. As the film began, the lead actors, or main characters of the film's names were presented in blue bold letters, later, after about four of these titles the name of the movie came up in larger text, "outbreak." After this a new scene transitioned that displayed a "present day" text, and shortly after the setting was displayed as another title. Then, smaller, less important actor titles were displayed to the audience.   Me and my group were researching title designs and opening sequences and we came across two really cool websites! First, we found a website called   Artofthetitle.com . This website will substantially help our group in the production process. Why did we research opening sequences? Well, we wanted to get an idea of what a sample film or something similar should like. By doing this, it help our group come up with a better product in the end. furthermore, by researching sample opening sequences it helps give our group inspiration, or other ideas to include in ours. By finding this website, our group can now refer to them when confused or come across a problem. We are excited to soon begin filming, after further diving into these websites and looking at some example opening sequences. We are happy that we found this website! For our title blog we chose "Splice".  A title sequence from a movie in the thriller genre. Here is some information we pulled for the title sequence. 1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones? Throughout the 3 minute and 30 second video, the video showed 32 titles scenes. This opening was more like an end credit, it included the producer companies, actors, producers, directors, etc. At the end of the title scene it showed "Splice" with the letters enlarged and held for a few seconds. The camera looked like it was going through the body of something and along the way titles would transition in and slowly fade and a new title was coming in.  2. What connotations do the images carry? (how do they make you feel) The title sequences first contains images of many different x-rays with titles in every other picture. After, it is like a camera quickly moving through the body of what seems like a snake, very closely and quickly. Y

  conventions that my group liked:    There was a lot of conventions used in this film that our group likes. The angles and the clamps have their own purposes. We liked that the costumes because they were very casual since the movie takes place in a skyscraper. They were also props such as machine guns being shot, during the rising action of the movie. We like that it gives the audience a sense of suspense with the guns being shot. The lighting used since its in a big city gives a thrilling vibe. We definitely want to use a certain lighting in our film. The lighting gives a natural thrilling feel. Finally, we like the sound used in the movie. The sound of suspense attracts the audience which is very good for the film. Conventions that my group didn't like : My group didn't like certain things found in the film.   There are many different distinct conventions in Far from home.  I watched the Far from home today since I am studying the thriller genre. The movie was very good and it helped me understand the conventions in thriller films.  Conventions my group liked:  One thing I noticed is that there was a lot of tracking shots tracking spider-man. It tracked him on the webs. Thriller movies track the main character so the audience doesn't lose attention of the main character, such as they did in Far from home. The sound in the movie was very mysterious, as something was about to happen. Since the villain in Far from home was Dr. Curt. Connors, they made the sound creepy every time he was present. I noticed in thrillers that the sound is very similar in all of them. Spider-man has his costume and the props he uses in the movie.   For the first movie that our group researched, we chose a thriller called "Death Wish." Here are some conventions that we found in the blog that we liked, did not like, and overall conventions that we would use in our film. Conventions that we liked: There was a lot of conventions used in this film that our group likes. To start, a lot of the angles used have underlining purpose. For example, the antagonist in this film are usually represented with a low angle that shows them having power over another subject. To give the film a more modern feel, the costumes worn during the duration was more modern, casual clothing which is something that my group actually liked. Props were also fairly basic, hand guns were used through rising actions because they always give the audience a sense of fear, of suspense, which we liked.   Me and my group have come up with what genre we want or opening sequence to be. We decided today and we had a good discussion on what genre to pick. We picked the one that we all felt comfortable with and the one that we saw most interesting. The genre we choose is thriller. We choose thriller because we believe that we can make a great opening sequence using this genre. Me and my group like the camera angles, mis-en-scene, editing, and the sound that is involved in thriller films. We already began on what our opening sequence should be about. We feel the audience of the opening sequence will love the thriller film. The examples of the thriller movies me and my group researches caught our eyes. So that is why we choose our opening sequence to be a thriller. Furthermore, we also chose this genre because it gives the audience a happy medium between emotions. Common Angles:  There are many different angles that are widely used in the thriller genre. To start, high angled or birds eye view are commonly used in thriller. These shots are usually shown to give the effect that whatever is being locked down on, appears to look powerless and vulnerable. There are other angles used in thriller such as close up shots. This camera angle is used to show what the character reactions are to whatever is happening in the film and how they are feeling at that moment. It is also used to capture detail closely in a scene that is important in the film. The last camera angle common in thrillers is tracking shots. It helps the audience to have a full view of the scene and what is happening, but also helps to build suspense and tension as the audience does not know what could be shown next.   Our second genre that we chose is horror. horror is a very unique genre that has its own set of camera angles, Mis-en-scene, sound, editing. There are also many example films in this genre. Common angles:  The most common angle that is used in horror is a low angle, this angle is used to show the subject, (usually a murder, demon, etc..) as more powerful over another subject, usually the victim. Another common angle that is used in this genre is an eyeline angle. This angle is a very versatile angle that we found common in a lot of genres but its specifically common in this one because it usually is to show the non-remorseful expressions of the antagonist, but also the scared, or nervous facial expressions of the protagonist, or the "good." Overall, these two angles are the most common angles that we see in the horror genre, and how they contribute to the overall film.   The first genre that our group chose is comedy. Here are the common camera angles, mis-en-scene, sounds, editing. As well as some example films. Common Angles:  There are many different angles that are widely used in the comedy genre. To start, commonly extreme close ups as well as close up shots are used. These shots are usually shown to help the audience understand or grasp on the humor portrayed by facial expressions, and reactions from the subjects on the film. Furthermore, other angles are widely seen in comedy, like wide shots. Wide shots are used mainly to fit a large gathering into one shot, and by doing this it opens the door to group comedy, and other characters to fit into the scene or story play. Finally, the last common camera angle that we see a lot in this genre is eyeline shots. An  shot in comedy is the subjects way to often tell the audience directly, the joke or line being said.   Our pitch   Today is February 2nd and my group has come up with our pitches. Me and my group members have been coming up with pitches ever since the final task came to our attention. We have been researching how to make good workable pitches. We have come up with two pitches that we think would be the best to use. The first pitch is "A man is taking his daily walk through the park, what he doesn't know is that his enemy is watching... waiting to seek revenge''.  We feel like this would be an interesting pitch to make a film on this pitch because it shows the "enemy" as someone who has a relationship with the subject, or had a relationship.  My group is made up of 4 members. Ava Kanter, Charles Worth, Nicholas Pearlman, and Wren Ruby. I will be doing most of the drawing in our storyboard. I have a bit of experience in drawing and enjoy doing it. I have been drawing sketches as long as i can remember. I am very happy i get to put this to use. I think that out actors will be Charles and Nicolas as they are both good actors which is very useful for a movie trailer. Charlie and Nick have been the actors in our last two projects and i think they turned out pretty good. Charles has a talent in editing and will most likely be in charge of it. He knows how to combine clips, cut clips, and make transitions as needed. He is also very creative and always has now ideas flowing. This will be very helpful while brainstorming.  My Name is Ava Kanter and I'm in AICE Media Studies AS Level. I am 15 years old and a sophomore. I'm very excited to be blogging about my journey through this class. This is where i will be posting all my blogs for the year. I've always has a great interest in films and media, now I get to experience making them with my friends. I have a decent amount of experience in drawing which will be helpful with our story boards. I have always had an interest in editing too and have wanted to learn more, which is another reason why i wanted to take this class. I will also be able to improve on my filming skills in this class.
