Introductory

 


 My Name is Ava Kanter and I'm in AICE Media Studies AS Level. I am 15 years old and a sophomore. I'm very excited to be blogging about my journey through this class. This is where i will be posting all my blogs for the year. I've always has a great interest in films and media, now I get to experience making them with my friends. I have a decent amount of experience in drawing which will be helpful with our story boards. I have always had an interest in editing too and have wanted to learn more, which is another reason why i wanted to take this class. I will also be able to improve on my filming skills in this class. I have always been the photographer friend when my friends wanted to post on Instagram. Now I can actually know what kind of picture I'm taking. Knowing the filming terms will her me in the future whether it will be what kind of angles my friends want their pictures at, or if I'm just watching a movie. It's cool to be able to apply this kind of knowledge to things you typically wouldn't think twice about. Which is another example of how Media Studies will benefit me. I will be able to produce photos and videos to the best of my ability. I grew up watching movies, tv shows, and vlogs on YouTube, this will help me to use examples and drive my knowledge. This class has a lot to offer for me. (15)I'm very egger to start filming and working with my friends. I hope this class will help me to improve. Title Design Research: Thriller

For our title blog we chose "Splice".  A title sequence from a movie in the thriller genre. Here is some information we pulled for the title sequence. 1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones? Throughout the 3 minute and 30 second video, the video showed 32 titles scenes. This opening was more like an end credit, it included the producer companies, actors, producers, directors, etc. At the end of the title scene it showed "Splice" with the letters enlarged and held for a few seconds. The camera looked like it was going through the body of something and along the way titles would transition in and slowly fade and a new title was coming in.  2. Our Film

 Yay we finished out film! I'm really proud of my group and I, I think we did a decent job. I'm a little sad this is our last project, I had a lot of fun working on this with my group.

Production (filming)

 So, I had planned to go film at a local park today, but it didn't work out. I got home, gathered my belongings, and was ready to go. I gathered all of our props, including costumes, a fake knife, and other items. But as soon as I stepped outside, it began to rain!! I waited about fifteen minutes for the rain to stop, but it didn't, so my group and I reached a deal. I made the decision to go to Nick's place, where we would be able to work inside. I began by putting the finishing touches on our script and outline. I also observed other films in our genre that have been similar to ours. We noticed a few key details, such as the usage of low perspectives throughout the film. Low angles are also employed to demonstrate the subject's might in these professional films, I noticed. I intended to use this in our film to demonstrate the kidnapper's power.
